how do you make an animated avatar...

well guys...

its getting to be about that time for me to finally earn my
avatar...

but before i resort to begging, pleading and offering
bribes to those of you who may recognize me and be able
to set me up with a killer avatar...

i figured id ask...

how the heck do you do it???

I would imagine any animated gif would do, assuming its smaller than the file size limit. To create an animated gif, there are lots of programs that can do it. Such as Photoshop and ImageReady.

A quick search on versiontrackers shows these two freebies.

GifBuilder - Fast Free and Effective

I recommend GifBuilder.

It's freeware and works perfectly.

Building an animated avatar is like doing stop-motion animation.

You'll want to make a gif image for every stage of the animation. Using GifBuilder, available for OS 9 and OS X, you then import each image. You can then set the animation properties for the gif. The software does the rest.

One caveat: Each gif - for each stage of the animation - has to be the same image size.
