I always used tempered glass screen protectors in the past, but I'm finding that with 3D Touch I prefer not to have a protector in the way.

For those who have been using their phones without protection since release day, how is the new dual ion-exchange glass standing up to scratches?

The iPhone 6 Plus I had, I could see many scratches on the screen. I'm using the 6S plus in exactly the same manner, and naked and looks perfect so far. Very impressed!

I haven't detected a scratch yet (3 weeks old). It does go in a dedicated pocket.

    No scratches, even under sunlight.

    Glass seems a little better!

One scratch, tiny (less than a cm) top right. Gold 6S+.
I have NO idea how it got there as it goes from pocket, to desk charger @ work, to pocket, to nightstand, every single day.
At first I thought it was a runaway hair, but after doing the ol' fingernail test, I was about to kick the nearest trash can...

So, yeah, they can be scratched.... by what, is the mystery....

I've never used a screen protector on any iPhone since 2007, and never had a scratch. This one is doing just as well as the others so far.

Mine goes in a pouch with a soft lining when not being used, and my screen is flawless so far.

How are you people getting so many scratches on your phones? I've had an iPhone 4, iPhone 5 and now an iPhone 6, never used screen protectors and I've never had any scratches.

The oleophobic properties are the best of any glass iv seen, no scratches, but since I spent 1k on the phone I decided to try a tempered glass that I'm pretty satisfied with(also has excellent but not as good oleophobic properties) JEtech Glass

The coating on the glass will always scratch

You either have never been to the beach and expose the phone to sand.

Or use a case with a flip cover?

    Or just been very lucky.

I decided to use a tempered glass screen protector. I have not noticed any problems with it and the 3D Touch.

No, I don't take my phone to the beach. But I also don't use a case with any sort of cover over the glass - I just use the Apple silicone cases, mostly. My phone is in and out of my purse all day and I'm not ultra careful with it. But never a scratch.

My *launch day 6s Plus has 3 or 4 scratches.
    No case. No screen protector.

*Mind you, Romania's launch day was on October 9, the second wave of countries. So the phone is 3 weeks old.

Launch day space grey 6s+ (so 4 weeks old). No screen protector and no scratches. I keep it in a dedicated front pocket and rarely lay it down on its face.

Like others have said, sand/grit will scratch any screen (my 6+ got scratched up badly at the beach this past May...lesson learned). As long as you don't drop it and don't expose it to fine silicates or any other type of abrasive material you really shouldn't need a screen protector.

yea i handled it extra careful till my SP arrives and got a deep "fingernail" scratch in the middle of the screen.
i just don't know what to do now. didn't realize it was so delicate.
    this drives me insane.

It is true statement. The glass is not harder than many every day objects not to mention silica which is not just sand from the beach but even floats around with dust not to mention going outside. Your screen can scratch and I would venture to say your phone is scratched you just don't notice them. As they are not significant or deep scratches.

There is nothing wrong with this and you should be happy with your device, but to tell people your phone won't scratch unprotected is just false. if they choose to take said advice they will be back to contribute to the numerous complaint threads rampant on the forums.

Sapphire crystal can and does scratch and it is quite a bit more scratch resistant than most smartphone screens. Yes there are a few "custom" smartphones and modified luxury smartphones that use sapphire glass.

LOL...please stop telling me what I should and shouldn't be happy with. My statement is true. I have had many unprotected iPhones without scratches. You're making some wild assumptions about me that are completely false. I know how to check for microscratches, and my phone doesn't have any. Nor did my previous iPhones. I suspect that people who get lots of microscratches have phones with issues with the coating on the glass. Those are the people who post here. Many others, like me, don't have issues.

I scratched mine while wiping it down one day. Saw something on the screen and I stupidly pressed down hard to clean it off. Voilà! Three tiny scratches... Moral of the story: don't press down hard when you're wiping down your screen..
