I have an iPhone 6S since it came out. How much longer will it last?

I actually do plan on upgrading to the 7 or the one that comes after the 7 Bc I need the best camera for selfies but I was just curious.

I would think at least two more iOS cycles. Granted thats a guess, but it seems appropriate to be supported for two more cycles.

For as long as apple keeps giving it updates to iOS. The A9 and 2 gigs of ram will give it long legs.

It will last until you decide to stop using it. I'll never understand why some people think that a device is no longer useful just because the manufacturer decides that it has reached its end of life. Lack of updates does not automatically brick a device. I have a friend who still uses his iPad 1 and it still serves his needs today as it did when it was released.

Apple generally gives a phone a minimum of 5 years of support so up till Sept 2019.

Since the A9 is also in the SE and the new iPad...it's a very solid CPU. In contrast, the A8 was not as good.

And it being the last model with the 3.5mm jack to boot...all the more reason why it is a classic.

Apple new home pod also uses A8 chip I remember, from keynote. A8 is weak but it might last a bit longer. So does A9.

My opinion is SE and 6S will get updates until 2020. The A9 chip is as faster than last year Android flagships and as fast as this year, so I think it will run well for a while.

A8: 2-3 years of iOS support

I am wondering if Apple drops support for Iphone 5S next year, it means that 6s will be capable to run iOS 13.
If Apple wont drop 5s next year, it means that the 6s will be capable to run iOS 15.

Its an S model. S models usually get an extra year of iOS updates. If Apple continue that trend , the 6s will be compatible with iOS 15.

Are they?...way to cheap out!

That home pod has some catching up to do as the competition is ahead of them. But this is Apple...so anything is possible.

I plan on keeping my 6s for a long time. As other posters have said, it's going to be a perfectly usable phone for years to come. Chances are you will become bored and want something new to play with long before it wears out.
If Apple keeps the same iPhone design I won't be bored to keep my 6S+

iPhone 5s with A7 chip from 2013 is getting iOS 11. iPhone 5 is ending support because it was the last with ARMv7 (32-bit) processor and Apple is going all in with ARMv8 (64-bit) compatible chips.

So, i believe that Apple will support iPhones for at least 4-5 yrs.
[doublepost=1497108721][/doublepost]Remember, Apple is so far ahead of everyone else (mobile) in chip processing. Even though Android claim that they can do "more" with their OS, their latest chip CPU processing is around Apple A8-level. Qualcomm S821 (late 2016) is slightly below A8 (2014) and their newest S835 (2017) is still below A9 level according to Geekbench single thread.

For example, Pixel (late 2016 with S821) single thread score is BARELY better (around 200 better, which is almost insignificant) than iPhone 5s A7 chip from 2013!!

So, if Android with all their fancy do "more" claims and they are literally at least 2 years BEHIND Apple chips, then i think that Apple iPhones have a very long shelf life.

(Yes, i put quotes around "MORE" for a reason....)

The A9 is still a very stront chip.

I expect the 6s to be supported for a long time. Like someone mentioned, the new iPad has the same chip so it's possible we will see updates into the 2020s

Plus the A9 is more as or powerful than many computers that Apple still supports with macOS....Mobile chips have got so advanced by the time of the A9s release that we will probably see apple support them as long as they can

Of course, much depends on how ios changes these next few years

Extreme mis-information in this thread. New iPads have A10X Fusion which is almost 2X faster than A9 found in 6S.

Remember, A8 in HomePods main function is some sort of room correction and Siri. That’s it. HomePods don’t have much else capability to need a stronger processor.
