MAP seems a bit dated, I can't find the recent shootings.

anyways, this should give you a clue as to what happens in your area. sorry for the biased link :p

My new house: There has been 1 shooting within a 1-mile radius of this point in the past year, 1 fatal and 0 non-fatal. The closest shooting was 0.38 miles away.

My Old house :There have been 3 shootings within a 2-mile radius of this point in the past year, 2 fatal and 1 non-fatal. The closest shooting was 1.39 miles away.

Kind of suprising because my old house was on the edge of the ghetto, and my new house is in the upscale area.

1 in my direct neighborhood. Fatal accidental discharge.

2 more in a 3 mile radius, 1 non-fatal (hunting accident), and 1 fatal (gas station robbery)

I would also like to inform that there have been no violent crimes of any type in my neighbourhood for five years.

The last time the emergency services where here it was for a lost kitten.
It was even on the local news.

Woodside, Queens NY. Lived here for the last 7 years. My neighborhood is considered to be pretty good, but it's still highly populated and highly traveled through by people from all over. Good chance that a good portion of the shootings are from people that don't even live here.

My old neighborhood where I was raised in Jamaica, Queens NY. I'm actually surprised, considering it was the wild west over there. But things have got much better. Plus the police are heavily deployed in bad neighborhoods or what used to be bad neighborhoods. And it's more of a local neighborhood. So no outsiders spike the numbers up. I would still say Woodside is safer than Jamaica, even though the stats don't reflect so.

The last person shot 'from' (not in) my neighbourhood was during WW2 in France. The last murder was in 1991.

In Queens, a thief got shot dead by holding a gun to a car buyer who arrived to buy a car from a Craigslist ad. Car buyer was an armed off-duty cop who only wanted to buy the car. The accomplice escaped by jumping into the car for sale and he sped off.

Jamaica is far better than what I remember growing up in Queens in the 70s.

Wouldn't a 2 mile radius around Woodside put you in Manhattan?

One fatal near me and ironically it was a middle eastern guy who was shot and killed by a Somalian. Turns out it was some type of planned murder as the guy was coming out of a restaurant with his wife and four kids. Shot in head and killers drove away. Never caught the bad guys.

Other than that I stand by my previous comments that it's hood rats killing each other as the shootings are all concentrated in white trash areas and ghetto ares of the city. Nothing really at all in the suburbs. Mostly Race and W2 related issues when it comes to gun violence.

Yea, I heard about that. I always do transactions from Craigslist in the daytime and in very busy areas. And that's still not risk proof.

Yea, and it's interesting that it's not because of gentrification.

No, It's about 4 miles from the 59 street bridge. Maybe a Sunnyside zip code would overlap a piece of Manhattan.

There was one shooting 1.91 miles away from my house. I remember it well. Had something to do with baby theft.

...go up the road about 12 miles into Chattanooga though, and all hell breaks loose. It's easily over 50.

Isn't it amazing what can be accomplished in a country without an armed citizenry? Marvelous.
