Hello guys, this is my first time to sign a contract to get an iPhone, but here is a question.
I bought a 64G iPhone 5 today with 2yrs contract from AT&T store, and the price was 399.99. But they charged me $65.87 as tax. I live in CA, and the tax amount is based on full price of a 64G iPhone which is $849, so I'm wondering whether it is correct to charge me tax as a full price iPhone?

At a 8.25% tax rate, they are charging you tax at the price of $799.

I know in florida they only charge on the $399. idk why it would be different there

Some states differ in how they charge tax. I'm guessing this is correct and that CA charges sales tax on the retail price.

Yup, California and Nevada like to rape new phone people with taxes. Just like you said, it's based on the full retail price of the device. It's regular. Can be avoided by purchasing out of state.
