so it does work and when i charge overnight it does hold the charge at about 80%, but at about 6am it goes on to charge fully. my alarm is set to 8:03am and that is usually the time i get up. if this feature is meant to preserve our battery health, why wouldn't it hold off a bit longer before reaching 100%?

does it work the same for you?

Are you bragging about being able to sleep so late in the day? Just kidding (not kidding)
Anyhow, yes, mine starts about 90 minutes out to top off from 80 to 100. I am using the larger fast charger that came with the 11 Max

yes, don't even get me started on how sweet my commute is! :)

so wait, it tops off 90 min before you get up, or it starts to top off?

i'm using a wireless charger with a 9v adapter.

Well, it's still optimized even if it's not as perfect as it can be. There are likely some tolerances built into it where there's some accounting for the potential that even though an alarm is set for 8 AM that someone might wake up earlier and decide to use their device somewhat earlier, or something else along those lines.

yea... but if i had to suddenly get up at 6 am and my phone was at 80% i'd be more than ok with it... also, if it's learning - i haven't gotten up earlier than 7:30 once, i wish it would factor that in...

but yes, i agree that it's not as perfect as it can be, and perhaps it's going to get better. i just feel bad, as i care about my battery health i try to not keep it on the charger after it's done and as a result of this i'm doing so by 2-3 hours every night... perhaps i should just stop.

Mine has not once worked. Lucky you two lol

not that lucky tho)

The difference that you might gain from "perfection" beyond what it's already doing is more than likely not going to be anything meaningful (and potentially not even really noticeable).

Best roast for me today.
Misses the old days of getting up at 10 am.

As for the main topic, the iPhone hasn’t figured out my daily routine yet, after so many months. The algorithm must be very complicated to help providing a better outcome.

it is intended that way to give you some room for "variations" in your habits.

Most people wouldn't be happy to wake up 1hr earlier than usual and find the phone at 80%.
And they would complain here 😆

me too.
But it is clearly my fault, since I'm changing charging habits continuously...

funny - one night i don't charge it and it has forgotten my pattern. the last two nights it's been charging to to 100% right away.

well people here will complain just about anything so that's not the point. however that behavior(battery, not complaining) would go along with what this function is supposed to be about - it's not its fault that you woke up at an earlier(than it has learned to know) hour...

I've had my 11 Pro since launch day get up at the same time Monday through Friday and I have yet to see this feature work. Goes straight to 100% as soon as I set it on the charger.

I'm having the same result. Optimized charging worked only the first day I put iOS 13 on my iPhone 8 and then never again but I've had the 11 Pro for nearly a month and it's not worked once.

just the first day, or since day one?

Mine held 80% from 10PM when I plugged it in until 3AM before making it to 100% over the next hour and fully charged at 4AM. I Am up by 6AM daily, even holidays and weekends.

It hasn't ever worked for my 7 Plus. If I don't stop the charging at 80%, it will keep charging to 100%.

Me neither and I have a consistent 730 alarm, at least for weekdays. Though maybe because I do wireless, but I see others have it work on wireless. Does it only work on certain wireless?

Same. I honestly don't know what it is doing since I am sleeping, but I definitely have never gotten the notification, and I definitely checked that it is turned on.
