I don't know when this got so confusing but I have no clue what's going on.
I got an email from Apple about a billing problem with an app subscription renewal that says:
When I click the "Fix Apple Cash" button it takes me into the Mac iTunes app and shows me that my "Apple Cash" balance is $0.06. There is no way to do anything here with buttons - it's just telling me that info.
So I go to my phone's settings and go to "Media and Purchases' and it tells me "You are part of a family. The payment method for your family is managed by [wife's email]."
I've asked her to check the payment info on her phone and she says everything is fine.
I then see an "Add Money to account" section on my phone that has buttons to add money to my account balance, meaning my own email address. But the section above says my payments are managed by my wife's account, so why would I add money to an account I'm not using?
But then we come full circle to the email I got, which tells me there's a problem with my account.
I used to just use a debit card to pay for Apps. I never signed up for Apple Pay or an Apple Card or did anything to try and change that, so I don't know why I have a six-cent balance in a thing I never set up, linked to an email that my own phone is telling me isn't the email that my account is using.
(Also, I thought there were 2 things: Apple Pay and Apple Card. What the hell is Apple Cash? Are there 3 different Apple-money-things now? What's the difference?)
Have I reached the point where I need to call Apple? Thought I'd check here first to see if someone could explain this to me using small words since I just don't get it.
Thanks.

| The charge for your subscription was declined by your Apple Cash. To avoid losing access to your service, update your payment method. |
