I arranged an old 2010 MacMini as a music server with an app which I can control over my mobile phone but even tho I set the Mini not to ask for a password each and every day I try and use it to play music with the player active it doesn't unless I perform remote access off another computer (it runs headless connected to a TV via HDMI just in case).

Weird is that I removed the password to avoid entering it each and every time but if I wanna remotely access it with file sharing I get asked for password but it doesn't allow me, if I go through screen sharing it then works...

Also, it had no energy saving restrictions, no screen and no disk stop, always active.

Any suggestions to make so I don't have to unlock it before using?

Grazie

Just to confirm…you have System Preferences>Users & Groups>Login Options>Automatic login: set to your account?

Does the Mini have Filevault or a firmware password enabled?

I think you got me the right hint, a panel I never gave any attention before, this preference pane where user get asked to type the password after either stop or screensaver activation, since I had no password inserted I had to first input one then being able to disable the request in the pane, tomorrow we'll figure it out.

Thank you so much for your hint

Back to square one, now when I try and access the computer it doesn't ask for password but won't play any sound, I have to restart it as, apparently, once the DAC is disconnected even tho I manually (off Remote Desktop) pick it as output source, no sound and only option is to reboot the Mini :-(

Not sure if this solves the problem. If your DAC is connected via USB to your Mac Mini, maybe you need to System Preferences/Sound/Output and select the DAC USB device to enable the audio.

Yes, that's part of the issue, main one being that if I switch off the DAC it won't play even tho I manually get into the OS preferences pane and select it which is not the purpose of having a headless computer, solution being to leave the DAC always on which bothers me because of the power brick unit's led being as bright as a xmas tree...

Grazie e buona Pasqua
