When you click on the Downloads folder in your dock, a list appears of your recent downloads. When you click on a file in that list, the file opens up. But how do you copy that file straight from there? I have to go into the Downloads folder, find the file there and then copy by command+c, it would be much easier if I could just copy from the list that appears when you click on the Downloads folder the dock.

You can't manipulate those Dock popup icons as you can in Finder. If you right click on the Downloads icon in the Dock and click on "Open Downloads" at the bottom of the list it will open a Finder window from where you can copy it as you like.

You can drag files out of the Downloads stack in the dock, and option-drag to make copies.
