How to lower the headphone volume of rmbp

Hi, the headphone volume is a bit high even at the lowest 1 or 1/4 level.
Just wondering is there any way to lower the whole system volume by software without any addition hardware such as headphone amp or simple variable resistance?

i encounter the same problem too, i use an external volume control...you can find it on ebay, pretty cheap.

You can use the app Boom which is basically a system-wide audio amplifier/equalizer. Just lower every band in the EQ and it should do the trick. The app is $6.99 with a free trial.

Thanks. Never thought about an EQ. There are also some free solutions for EQ, but I haven't tried them.

Haven't tried them either. I know Boom works well since I use it and I like the fact I can change volume/EQ presets quickly from my menubar.

If you want to give the free ones a try I'm interested to know how well they work.

Alternatively, use higher impedance headphones.
