how to modify mplayer´s video codec for hdv

hi
i have a problem,
i want to play a hd movie in the .m2ts format
a few months ago the mplayer played the movie very fine
my problem was to change the subtitles to german,
i tried a few things to do and then the video was black, but audio worked
now i think it´s the wrong video codec, which mplayer uses but i still couldn´t find how to do this on the mac version
