How to stop web videos from autostarting in Safari

There seems to be a new trend over the last year where certain web sites automatically start playing videos with often very loud sound. Is there a setting or plug in that will allow me to prevent this on Safari? USA Today is one of the sites that has this problem.

I too would like to know if there's any way of doing the above. Or even disable video altogether for certain sites.
