The new Boston Convention & Exhibition Center will play host to Microsoft Corp.'s largest annual convention in 2006, an event that is projected to draw more than 10,000 people to Boston over four days.

Mayor Thomas M. Menino, flanked by Massachusetts Convention Center Authority head James Rooney and Michael J. Kosek, who runs Microsoft's New England operations, announced yesterday that the massive South Boston facility will host Microsoft's annual TechEd convention, a gathering of thousands of programmers and other computer aficionados.
