So i'm not sure how i did it, but i accidentally broke the little levers that pop the memory out of my 1st gen intel iMac. Right now there is only 1GB in there, but i've got 2gb (2x1gb) coming in the mail. So, the 512mb DIMMS aren't worth that much. since the levers are broken, can i just gently pull the memory out with pliars? Obviously the memory will be damaged and no longer work, but I don't think it will damage anything to the DIMM socket. Then I should be able to just slide in the new memory. right?

Can you explain how you broke the leavers?

And I an assuming that what you say will be fine.

Sure, I was trying to use the levers to pop out the memory like normal - heard a snap, and now one of the levers hangs limply and doesn't really push on the memory anymore. bad luck i guess - i've done it a million times and not sure how that happened.

You should be able to get the ram out without pliers...have you try just pulling/wiggling it really hard? Pull on one side until it comes up a little, then the other side, and so forth.
