I can't connect my macbook to a television (believe me, I've tried)

I have had a great macbook for about a year now and decided I want to
attach it to my television. So I went to the store and bought this (special mac :apple:)
cable that has a (I think) mini DVI connection in the computer that leads to
a super video (SV) opening. Then I also bought a cable that starts with an SV
(which goes into the mac cable) and ends in a scart which goes inside the TV.
To the scart and SV cable there is also an audio cable attached which goes into
    the computer.
When I turn on the TV, I get the sound but nothing to see.. My computer doesn't
detect an external display. I've tried everything: see if the cables are in well,
put them in different in- and outputs, turn both the television as the computer on and off,
mess with the computer's system preferences and the television's preferences..
And I've also looked on forums and I've just gone clueless!!
I've paid 45 euro's for this, so I would love it if it would work :), any idea's?
    Thanks in advance,
