A lot of people thought this year would see a huge increase in iPhone sales. Based on my observations, a lot of people are on the fence and are delaying or postponing purchases. Some research analysts are also suggesting that the sales may not be as big as expected in 2018.

Apple will see a big increase in iPhone sales when it can bring the new full screen form factor to the $700-$800 price point.

based on what exactly?

they likely have sold millions and millions. Easily more than any other device out there

I question a lot of what you're writing in your post, and based on "Your observations" is supposed to mean what exactly? And for the record, analysts don't really indicate anything worth in terms of sales compared with what Apple will sell long term. Analysts also project/mud sling to see what actually sticks without actually having factual numbers. Not much evidence behind that.

I went to buy an iPhone X from my local Apple Store for my business partner last week.

In the 20 minutes that I was in the store, they sold at least 25 iPhone X’s that I counted.

If that’s representative, they are selling huge amounts of them.

OP:

This was your Observation on 29 November.

"Few observations:
1) It is pretty clear that the iPhone X will be the best selling single iPhone model of this "generation". It probably will end up with over 50% market share."

What FACT happened since then to change your Observation?

Just curious----

I think he/she thinks that because the shipping time has dropped to next day shipping, the iPhone X isn't selling well.

I see 10’s EVERYWHERE, anecdotal I know but it seems like 3 out of every 5 is an X

I am an airline manager and work (moslty) at the Gates for the biggest airline here in my home country.
Since almost all airlines have e-Boardingpasses (our airline was exactly one of the first ones here in Europe), I see at least 250 to 300 smartphones every single (working) day (I work 5 days a week)
So I do think I can have a fair view (fact-based) about the diversity of smartphones out there.
Our customers of course, are both tourists and business people.

I would say for the last 5 weeks (since release of the iPhone X) I see a maximum of 6 to 8 iPhone X'es a day.
Most seen smartphones are iPhone 6S/7/8 and the Plusses of these 3 models and Samsung S7 (Edge)/S8(Plus), although more iPhones then Samsung smartphones.

Just to give you all an idea what's really out there, at the moment ;)

I still agree with that post. My point is that the entire 2017 collection of phones won’t generate a huge increase over the 2016 phones. This was supposed to be a “super cycle” of higher phone sales. I don’t think we will see that until

1) FaceID and edge to edge screen come to the $750 range
2) FaceID apps actually result in new uses for the phone

Once the X has promomotions attached to it like the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, Samsung 8, Note 8 - you will see more of them

Both my sons love my X - they want an additional gift card or money off and don’t want to trade in their 7 pluses to get an extra promotion deal. They want to double dip in the savings - I’m sure there are others waiting for the X to be included in promotional pricing

Apple has already said that demand for iPhone X is off the charts. I think they know better than anyone how amazing this product is selling.

Just because analysts got it completely wrong on scarce supply, don't let their destroyed credibility persuade you that iPhone X is not selling well.

Until the earnings report comes out there is no way of knowing or even speculating with any accuracy. I've not seen a single X in the wild yet and I work in a large office and travel on a busy train most days but that doesn't mean Apple haven't sold any ;)

I think that’s a fair amount of X’s considering the period of time it’s been out and you would expect to see more of the 6/7/8.

X feels like a first attempt
Well that’s precisely what it is.

X feels like a first attempt

In a sense, it is a first attempt at a new beginning for a new iPhone with implementing gesture controls and Face ID. It's the start of what's to come in the future for the iPhones and how it can only evolve from here.

So what evidence do you have that they aren't selling well?

Do far I have seen two people in London with the X on the streets and buses. So it doesn't seem to be that huge yet.
I was die upgrade yesterday but just can't stand the X after several try outs in store. Not right for me.
Went to upgrade to 8+ today but the screen is so much dimmer than my 7+ no matter how I tried with the settings so left without a phone.
Not sure what to do now. Pissed off with Apple for the X which I waited for so much and found so disappointing and underwhelming. I have had an iPhone since 3G and this is the first time I have not been recorded about a new model.

Well, my observation is that I was in several small meetings last week in the US and China, and in each there was at least one other X, and that in each case the owners were thrilled, showing their new toy off, etc., to quite a lot of interest from other attendees.

One observes what one wants to observe, I guess. To my eye the X is an unqualified hit.
