I have no clue how to jailbreak, I have looked at tutorials, but I am still super confused, I just need someone to help me step by step on how to jailbreak my phone. (I have a 1st generation and I want MMS.. and apparently to get that EVER, I will have to jailbreak)

What is redsnow, cydia?? How do I get apps? Can I update my phone through itunes anymore after I jailbreak, to maybe update to 3.1 when it comes out? What are going to be the major changes after it is jailbroken?

I need someone who is extremely knowledgeable about this, because I do not have the cash for a new phone, and I REALLY do not want to brick the only phone I have.. thanks.

EDIT: I have 3.0.1 right now, and I dont know how to downgrade it (if that is needed)

You were just told to read the tutorials:

    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=8414527#post8414527

and you've already given up in like 3 minutes?

Google jailbreaking, and it'll lead you through what it is and give links to redsn0w, etc.

Also, the iClarified tutorials are very straight forward.

Besides the fact that we have guides on here.

    And thread after thread....

aggie, I did read them.. and I am STILL confused, If I cant find someone willing to help me then i will just pay someone else to do it.. thus the reason for the thread. I am CONFUSED. I do not know the insides of the phone like some do, and I checked out iClarified and it shows NOTHING for the iPhone 1stgen with 3.0.1.. that is why I am asking.

If you've read the tutorials and you still can't understand how to do it, perhaps jailbreaking is not for you. I'm not bring flippant or trying to be rude, but jailbreaking is not for everyone; it's a complex and unsupported hack that is recommended only for people who understand what they're doing. If you can't understand the tutorials, I'm not sure it's a good idea for you to be messing around with hacks.

I would rather TALK to someone than read a tutorial, because if i have a question, who is there to answer?? I guess I will just get someone to do it for me. If anyone needed my help step by step doing something I knew a lot about, I would not think twice about helping. Nevermind I asked.

Cydia is similar to the AppStore, apart from it contains apps that would probably never be approved

Seriously, Jenna. The tutorials should be easily understandable for anyone who is knowledgeable enough about an iPhone to be jailbreaking it. The fact that you can read the tutorials and still not know what Redsn0w is shows clearly that you shouldn't be messing around with it. Frankly, I don't think you should get anyone else to do it for you either, as you won't have any idea what to do when something goes wrong down the road.

If that is the case, then you have no business trying to JB your phone !

Unfortunately some people are just not tech savvy enough to do these types of things !

I love how people instead of helping fly off the handle and tell me not to jailbreak.. hell if a 12 year old boy can do it, then I can too.. my god.

    Obviously not !

Some 12 year old boys know more about this stuff than the majority of us.

Ok, I am going to spell out the problem here in simple english. I am not trying to be rude, honestly, I am just trying to point out what is going on here. You are asking people to spell things out for you when they have already been spelled out in numerous places. The forums are for answers to hard questions, not basic "How-to's" because, well, because the how-to's already exist. There is no need to reinvent the wheel.

As several people have pointed out to you, look for a tutorial that you understand and are comfortable with. Read it. All of it. Beginning to end. BEFORE attempting anything. If you are still confused or don't get something then search google and MRoogle for the answers, its probably already been asked. If you STILL can't find the answer, then start a thread. People on here, including myself, are more than willing to help you, but we aren't going to hold your hand.

    EDIT:
That is an incredibly... uninformed (I wanted to say ignorant but don't want to get in trouble for "name calling") thing to say. Age has nothing to do with being tech savvy and any assumption otherwise is just silly.

Im sorry to be rude but why the hell do you think i started this thread in the first place?? I said I can do the jailbreak a few posts back, but I was asking about updates ect. If you want to help then just answer the question! Instead of wasting your time telling me the same thing that the last 6 people have said. I am sorry if i am coming off bit**y but I asked on here to get help, and I have gotten ONE person to say anything that helped at all... the rest of you sit back and just tell me not to do it, instead of answering the question at hand, what is so hard about that??

Im sorry but I am going to find a different forum to be a part of.. you people are rude and immature and quite frankly I am sick and f-n tired of it. To the ones who actually try to help, then more power to them, but it is like a lions den in here.. no one can ask a question without getting their head bit off! You guys need a day job. I dont live on this forum, I do 12 hours of school, 15 hours of internship and 20 hours of work a week, but you guys, you do more like 80 hours a week of nit picking on a damn internet forum!

If you act like this on a forum, then what does that say about your non interweb life??

Im done. Good luck in life, one day you won't have a computer screen to hide behind. Later.

But this is exactly what I am talking about. You want us to tell you how to use something in this thread when if you had searched you would have gotten the answer already. The problem isn't that people don't want to help you, its that you are asking us to help you with stuff that has numerous tutorials already.

    Link

For the record, I DID help you, I pointed you to a site that has great tutorials. You stated that they didn't meet your needs. Ok, fine, whatever, but to sit back and say no one is helping you is ridiculous.

Well, for my personal profile, I am a 22 year old college graduate who makes 6 figures and is planning a wedding. I'd say I'm doing something right.

Wow, thats nice, I am a 23 year old Law student who graduates in 2 semesters, who already had my dream wedding, and I married a Telecommunications Graduate, who is also a cop, perusing the FBI. If you want to throw out shi* like that, not to mention we are planning our house being built... Thus the reason I am broke all the time, our money goes in to our house.. a nice 2 story with 4 bedrooms 2.5 baths.

People can be rude and immature on this forum, sure. But in this thread, I don't see how you could say that. Since you say only one person helped you, I'm guessing it is this post:

Since they directly told you something, and thus I guess you don't think I helped you or anyone else.

You originally said you didn't know what cydia was, but a google of any of the terms I gave you will lead you through everything you want to know. I'm confused.

Wow. You completely missed the point. I was trying to show you in a not-so-subtle way that your generalization about the members on here is disingenuous at best, down right insulting at worst.

    I thought you were leaving?
