The 2019 MBPs apparently have some more protection from the keyboard issues. I currently have the 'I', 'O', and spacebar keys double registering at times. It seems to be the most common when the laptop gets hot. If I were to take this in and get it fixed, would I get the new 2019 keyboards, or would I just get a new 2018 keyboard?

I sent my 2018 MacBook Pro in to Apple for keyboard issues and I get it back from Apple today, I will let you know if they replaced my keyboard with the 2019 version.

If you got a 2019 replacement then it should be very easy to notice. I recently sold my 2018 MacBook Pro because I received a 2019 MacBook Pro from my new employer. I have to say I MUCH prefer the typing experience of the 2018 keyboard. The 2019 keyboard is far "harder", clickier and louder. I much prefer the softer, subtle an and quieter typing experience on the 2018 keyboard...

I think it depends on the stock of the apple store they are going to do the change. I changed my 2017 keyboard a couple months ago in Edinburgh, and they said that they do not have the 2019, so I got a 2017 again.

The 2017 doesn't get the 2019 keyboard.

My understanding is 2019 top case is different than the 2017 and earlier top cases. So they can only replace 2018 and 2019 with 2019 top case (Al panel, trackpad, keyboard, and battery).

I just received my 2018 MacBook Pro back from Apple. It has the 2019 top case and a new battery. I MUCH prefer the firmer more clackety 2019 keyboard so I am a happy camper.

When you opened the case for the keyboard replacement, how did you describe the issue to Apple?

Did they say anything about them having to replicate the issue before actually agreeing to replace the top case?

Thanks!

I indicated that the spacebar kept repeating (causing Microsoft Word to add a period randomly when I typed). There was no indication whether or not they tried to replicate the issue.

I gather from your questions that you would like to send your computer in for a replacement keyboard, whether or not apple can replicate the problem. I suspect you are safe in sending it in.
