The title says it all. Macbook Pro 2012 retina fell off the table, screen had a huge smudge. Take it into the local Apple store to see what kind of offer they would have on screen replacements, turns out it was the usual pull and switch to try and get me to upgrade.

Given this was the sealed i7 model, I was tempted, but what bothered me was the cost to replace the actual screen. $1300.00 CAD before tax. It felt like I needed to change oil and breakpads at a Mercedez dealership.

Came back home, scoured the web for screen replacements for that model, found one locally shipped for under $400.

The Macbook has some really tiny connectors that are much better handled with a proper tool kit with anti-static spudger, but otherwise, there were plenty of guides online to guide each step of the way.

So if you're ever faced with a similar situation, and don't want to say goodbye to your Macbook, you can always try your hand at replacing broken hardware yourself!
