my options im looking at are the hitachi travelstar 7k500 and momentus xt. both are going to be 500gb. i just want to know which runs nicer i.e. quieter, cooler, least vibration, and bang for the buck! thanks!

id probably say the hitachi .. i found it locally for about 79 dollars .. the XT is around 139.99
I ended up going SSD but i dont think the XT is worth almost double the price of the hitachi drive

In terms of bang for the buck, it's hard to beat the hitachi. Probably the best option of all in terms of value considering it's the cheapest and arguably the best of the traditional 7200rpm hdds.

keep the opinions coming guys..id like to get one by the weekend.... im doing research on my own it just seems that everyone has bad and good things to say about both...one person say quiet and the next says loud...just needing some help

I'm in the same boat in that I'd like to upgrade my stock 5400 hdd too. But I'll wait a little while longer to see how they all match up, esp with the new 500gb scorpio black and the 7200.5.

good review but it doesnt really clarify any of my concerns..noise/heat/vibration/effect on battery life:/
