I know it's early, but, what do you think the possible resale value for a 64x will be in 20 months?

I ask because I just upgraded my work phone and the company pays half while I paid 500 out of pocket.. I don't mind because in 20 months I can get a new device. My thinking is apple products maintain a fairly good value and I will be able to get back most, if not 90% of the phone prices for me.

thoughts?

20 months from now, I would guess $500 or less. Because you have to factor at that time, the market will be flooded with used iPhone X's and it will be approaching two years old.

Depends on if you want to sell online via Swappa / eBay. Yes, you have a bigger audience but also have a big risk that a scammer will get you via PayPal chargeback which you can't really fight if they know what they are doing.

If you don't want to risk that, as I wouldn't, that means your only options are trade-in (a terrible return) or craigslist (flooded market).

I personally wouldn't count on getting more than $400 back. Anything more would just be a bonus.

$300-$400

Probably closer to $300 once everyone and their dog starts to own one and several carriers will have many discounts, BOGO, and trade-in promos.

About 130M is expected to sell and about 90M in a year. Even if it doesn't sell as many, anything above 50M-70M is alot like iPhone 4 and 5. The phone will be in the market for 36 months or more. Alot of people in 20 months would either have the 2018 X or trying to offload the one you have.

You will have competition no matter how flawless it still is. It only took about 15 months for the iPhone SE to be a third of its original price ($150) and it isn't that popular. I remember the Motorola RAZR being $400 when it first came out in late-2004. By 2005, they were $50 with contract. By 2006, they were free with contract. By 2007, they were $50 without contract.

I sold my 64 gig 6+ 2 years after I got it(when they had no contract subsides anymore) and also carriers had the 650$ in credits for a trade that last year for 480$ on ebay.
So no a 1000$ phone will not be 300$ in two years.
I would put it around 500 and 600 for the 256gig

Usually right around 50% for a 2 year old phone; it is 2 cycles old by then and many have moved on already.

So likely $450-500 for a 64gb and $525-575 for a 256gb.

Thanks guys.. I wrote the title a bit wrong, but everyone got it.. 64gb X...

I'm not trying to turn a profit, but I'm trying to keep the cost of ownership down to nothing. So if I pay 500 out of pocket, and 20 months from now I can upgrade and sell this for nearly zero loss, that's a win..I don't see the phone losing 500 in 2 years. That's not really Apple like. Especially this phone.. But time will tell...

I could have gotten other models for less (the 7 or 8), but I figured i should just get the 10 and have both personal and work 10 .
