I live in the US but currently work in the Middle East. On my vacations I travel a lot through Europe and the rest of the world and wanted to purchase a cell phone that would work almost anywhere. I did a little research and found that my best bet would be to buy an unlocked phone. I found an unlocked i-phone on ebay and shipped it to my home in the US so that my wife could get it working and ship it to me. Well, first of all, the SIM card that was included with the phone is not in english so she is having trouble even knowing what to do with the phone. Apple will not talk to her because the phone was not purchased through them. We do not currently have a cell phone plan but she plans on getting one for the i-phone but it will be a US plan and she'll purchase a US SIM card for the phone. When I want to use the phone in Europe and elsewhere, do I simply purchase the prepaid SIM cards? Is there anything else I need to do? Any words of wisdom? Thanks in advance for any information.

Buy a US plan with international capabilities. My US AT&T phone works in egypt, UK, and america. (the only places I've tested) - would imagine it works everywhere for you too just pick the right plan.

you can do that but check the prices for those plans first I think it would probably be easier and cheaper to get a different sim in every difedent country but it would be a pain in the butt to change phone numbers every time you go somewhere
