I just switch the sims out with a sim adapter and can use either one interchangeably.

I'm just afraid of getting some huge bill at the end of the month because I'll get dropped or something and be using data without a plan.

That's not how it works right?

what is your service provider? You NEED a data plan to have a smartphone, at least in the US. The line the sim card is attached to is the one that gets charged. So you can put your sim in any phone but you will still get charged for how much data you use.

Why would you still use an iPhone 4...?

But yes, that would work fine.

Incase I go or somewhere I wouldn't want my iPhone 5 to get damaged (mountain biking etc)

I have an unlimited data plan with AT&T. I just sometimes like to switch between 4 and iPhone 5

I used to do this all the time between my (then) new 4S vs a beater iPhone4.
No problem then and can't see why there would be any issues now for you.

Excellent. I'll still keep an eye on bill just in case. But thanks.
