I just got this iPhone from a friend that has a Verizon contract (They upgraded to the 5). I would like to use this phone on Virgin Mobile. Is it possible to unlock this pone without jailbreaking it? If not, the phone is at 6.0.1 and has never been jailbroken before. Because it was never jailbroken Cydia does not have the SHSH blobs online, and because its a "new phone", they were never saved on my computer. From my understanding that makes it impossible to revert back to 5.1.1 and use an unteathered jailbreak, preventing me from moving forward on unlocking the phone.

What are my solutions to get this on Virgin Mobile?

    Thanks!

For Virgin Mobile you just need to have someone flash the phone.

Saving SHSH was never dependent on being jailbroken.
You will not need to jailbreak or unlock to have the phone flashed to VM.

I did, found their Twitter. Seems kind of sketchy, having to email some guy Will about unlocking a phone for money. I was trying to do it myself, I have seen a lot of scams online about unlocking iPhones, so I'm a little weary of that.

    ----------

Well that clears a lot more up, thanks! I have jailbroken a ton of devices before, and I'm aware that unlocking was different, as it allows it to be used on any network. However the term flashing is new to me, I thought flashing and unlocking were the same thing... Is this something I can do myself? If not, why not? Where can I have my phone flashed if It can't be done on my own?

I can personally tell you that he is legit. I have had numerous phones unlocked. He also has quite the following as well.

As far as flashing a CDMA phone from one network to another, it takes some piece of equipment or software I have never seen available in the hacking forums before.
Since I wouldn't touch a CDMA phone, I cannot offer the details.

I see numerous vendors on eBay, Craigslist and the like to flash CDMA phones.

Tell your friend to pop in his Verizon sim. Call and ask Verizon to do a carrier unlock. Provide the imei and Verizon will do the rest. Once unlocked, pop out the Verizon sim and pop in your virgin sim, reboot phone and enjoy!

My little brother is currently enjoying my old iPhone 4S. It was also from Verizon...

The Verizon iPhone 4 is purely CDMA, there is no sim card slot. Virgin in the U.S., also does not use sim cards.

I suggest you look up the difference between a CDMA network and a GSM network. If you were to get a 4s you would still have the same problem as dhlizard said before.
