You can really tell that I'm a switcher when I ask this question. What does the i stand for in iMac, iPod, iPhoto, etc? I know the e in eMac stands for education, but what about the i? Thanks.

Originally, I think, "internet" (the original iMac was marketed as very easy to get online with). Now, nothing really - "individual"? More of a marketing thing.

this has been discussed many times before, that is why there is a search function

but to answer your question it origninally mean internet because of the speed of which the original imac could be set up and get online, the i has now come to represent the consumer areas of apples line and is a marketing monkier

Jeez, that reply was fast! Anyways, thank you for the info. I do recall the internet being emphasized on the iMac a lot. I remember seeing an ad showing a Snow iMac with the Jaguar backdrop saying, "iMac. How millions of new users get to the internet -- in minutes." I also remember Mac OS 9 being called "the best OS for the internet ever."

Thanks!

It was hard hiting that little I to get in here :p
It does take some hand eye coordination to hit that little i.

Not something you'd be able to do

okay everyone, I'm sorry about doing this. I will search from now on like there's no tomorrow. Sorry to spam the boards. I am simply curious, and there's no need for everybody to criticize me for not searching things. Once again, sorry. :(

Originally? The internet.

Now, its a way to identify the "consumer" lines. iMac and iBook vs. PowerMac and PowerBook.

Linkety to a "New users FAQ" that iMade.

Umm.. Out of curiosity, just what keywords would you search for to find a thread on this topic?
You beat me to it yellow ;)

Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.
The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search : i

That is also part of the reason why I posted this.

Don't sweat it. Good question IMHO. I read these boards every day and missed whatever thread covered it before ;)

Thank you for not criticizing me! :) I feel better now.

Good call, some things are next to impossible to search for. You certianly couldn't search iPod, iMac, or just i. I can see how the answer to this would be very hard to search.

We can tolerate answering a question more than once every now and then ;)

Yep, that's why I posted it. An awful lot of 'search first' posts, without people really thinking about what they were saying. Especially since vBulletin's search function is abysmal.

Have you tried MRoogle?
