During a five-day operation in the Los Angeles area that ended Thursday, more than 120 businesses were issued audit notices.

A good thing to see. It should have been happening frequently over the last few years in an effort to get this aspect of illegal immigration under control.

And maybe, just maybe, encourage Congress to get off it's collective backside and fix things.

Good, hope they do the same with those in red states. I can guarantee you red states are bigger sanctuaries, as the greedy want to keep overhead lower, even when not necessary. I’ve worked in multiple industries and have traveled a lot.... you would be surprised what you see.

Raids on businesses are pretty common here in AZ.
    Mainly identity theft.
One of the pieces of infamous SB1070 that remained was making it a crime to hire an illegal/undocumented worker (pick your term).
Businesses will lose their license and the owner could face jail time over it if the person was hired knowing they were illegal/undocumented.

If they want to spend their enforcement resources on this that’s fine. I would much rather have the money and court time go to keeping people who have committed other crimes in addition to how they entered the country out rather than going after the immigrants who are trying to actually work and contribute to society. But maybe the GOP would rather keep criminals on the streets.

These actions seem to be against small time employers. Does anyone know if there was any action large tech companies hiring foreign tech workers? There's tons of those in Silicon Valley.

The idea is its a deterrent for an illegal alien and their employers. It will help cut down on illegal immigration if they actually enforce the law.

That’s fine, but I hope the right will remember that this is where Trump chose to spend limited resources the next time they want to cry about some illegal immigration either murdering someone or killing them in a car accident. Personally I think that those kinds of criminals are the better ones to focus resources on.

ALL blue and red states. Anyone breaking the law needs to get caught.

So when there are limited resources why go after the ones who only broke the law when they entered the country instead of going after those who committed other crimes as well.

formulating a plan to nail the source of the illegals income is a better target for the existing resources. Drying up their income is critical. Fine the hell out of the businesses and use that money to fund the additional resources that are lacking to go after the illegals themselves.

If you make it impossible to work in the US they will stop breaking the law to come and not be there to do illegal activities you talked about.

Because the incentive for them to come here in the first place is taken away.

For some, the problem is many of them are coming because they have nothing left to lose in their home countries. All this strategy does is get rid of the ones that come to benefit themselves and work in otherwise legal occupations and leaves the ones that are dangerous criminals and pushes those who are so desperate to get somewhere safe to lean more towards questionable places or modes of employment.

If you really want to get rid of the incentive to come here illegally it isn’t going to be through anything we do within our boarders we need to refocus our foreign aid and have something along the lines of the Marshal plan to build up the economies of Latin America.

So much for the right wing love for states rights huh? Or does that only apply to marriage licenses?
