This is great news. I have a feeling that Iran will legalize gay marriage before the U.S. does at the Federal level.

So funny and tragic in its truth! :D

But what's more sad is that the Obamas have gone on record stating they are against legalizing gay marriage. I know that they probably support and have no problems with gay marriage-- personally. But for the sake of not unpsetting the bigots, they have to be anti-gay marriage-- publicly. But being bi-racial and black, they know first-hand about discrimination and subjugation, and should know better. So much for being a great leader.

Missed this until today. Well done Iceland. There's now a halo of gay friendliness across the top of the Atlantic, just waiting to move south :)

You assume a lot by inferring they he or his wife are not bigots. He does seem to do his best to skirt all issues related the gay community.

Sorry, but bigotry is found on both sides of this particular social problem.

This is not funny, but it is true. Iran is a theocracy more than democracy. If you want to legislate your morality to an entire country, what better way than to tell them they are going to hell if they don't do as you say.

Good job Iceland. The more countries that do it, the more obvious it should become to this country.

LOL, ignorance is what it is, but he had deftly ignored the gay community long enough. He made promises and did the requisite nods/etc to gain their vote them left them in the cold once he got what he wanted.

DADT should have been pushed day one. Why should the states change their laws when the Feds don't budge on the issue? Leadership comes from the top.

For you to start calling Obama a bigot is just silly. You're reaching and it really is pathetic. Just because certain things have not passed yet does not necessitate bigotry.

He's obviously one of those people who thinks that if gay marriage is legal, everyone will become gay.

You have done quite a bit of assuming in your last sentence...(two mistakes)The birthrate in Iceland has dropped -2.83 %..No matter how hard you may try Lee, you or your husband cannot give birth...Has nothing to do about "Becoming Gay", or fear of gays, or gay bashing or whatever else doesn't fit in your agenda. Those in the closet may still hold their nose
and fake it. Those who are married, will not.

Meaningless information. Dropped from what to what? Over what time period?

And dropped a -ve percent would be a rise wouldn't it?

Anyway, assuming you're right and there's been a recent drop... Economic conditions in Iceland probably have more impact on birth rate than any other factor. People don't feel good about bringing kids into an uncertain world.

So, do you think that a couple of percentiles on a countries birth rate is more important than the right of its citizens to live happy lives, truthful to their own identity?

Or are you advocating that children be born into unhappy sham marriages?

I was talking to a friend the other day... he and his husband are expecting their first child with the help of a surrogate. You must surely approve - as a non-homophobe who's solely concerned about population growth.

Firstly the -2.83% figure you give is for 2004, and is not consistent over the past two decades. A more typical average figure is -0.5%.

As you're such as expert you will also already know that birth rates only tell part of a story when it comes to population figures. The population of Iceland is currently growing at an annual rate of just under 2%. This is due to both a dramatic fall in the infant mortality rate from 5.5% in 1990 to 1.9% under the latest figures (2008) and a rise in life expectancy from 76 years to 81 years over the same period.

The "agenda" you are following is trying to paint a false picture.
