ichat thinks I'm logged out, when I'm really in

Have the MM family pack and just gave another away to a nephew that got a new macbookpro.
So, I had to change a MM username from the one I was using to his. When I changed my ichat log-in account to the master account, I log in, but nobody else can see me, says I'm not logged in.
They have changed my profile to the new user account info. Could it be that it is the master account? Doesn't seem right.

They connect with a video of Apple's commercials. They all work, just none of my buddies.
