iDVD - align text, buttons, etc?

According to the iDVD '08 Help & Apple's website:

Your menu screen is no place for guesswork. iDVD features built-in dynamic alignment guides that pop up automatically to help you center any canvas object or align it with other objects.

I'm missing something somewhere, because I see no magic guides popping up to help me align my objects. Does this have to be turned on somewhere before it will work? Is there any known bug preventing them from appearing? Am I an idiot?

I'm using the latest versions of everything on a MBP.

Edit: Ok, I take that back. The guides appear for buttons. But I have extra text (basically grouping the different media), and it's those that I can't figure out how to align.
