hard to believe, after almost 10 years of trying, everybody in my family now are iPhone users. (12, SE2, 12 Mini, Xs Max and SE1)

each person is currently paying 99 cents per month for iCloud storage. 3 out of 5 are about to run out of the 50gb storage.

I want to switch to the $9.99/month 2TB plan and have all 5 family members share the 2TB.

What's the best way to do this? Do the other 4 people have to end their 99-cent plan and wait for me to switch to the 2TB plan? If so, will that cause them to lose data? Or do I simply switch to 2TB plan and add those 4 people... (in which case, will Apple simply stop charging them 99 cents per months?)

Thanks!

Thanks! I read that on the phone but must have missed the part that pretty much answered my question. I"m at home now and reading it on the computer, so I finally figured it out. Just did it... now my entire family is sharing 2TB of data. 2TB should be enough until December?

I would be surprised if you exceeded 2TB. That is a lot of data even with 4 people.

That’s hard to believe that only a few people really use iCloud with Photos. Imagine only about a one minute 4K/60FPS video…
None of the 5 people have exceeded the 50gb level. He did say 3 of the 5 are close. That is a long way to exceeding 2TB. Moose can properly manage his family data with talk and if need be supervision if it gets to that level down the road. I don't think it is good to try and paint the picture he is going to easily run the risk of running out when that hasn't been the case with the 50GB etc.

I doubt majority of users take that many photos and videos. We're on the 200GB/$2.99 family plan and most are using just 15-30GB (including backups).

come to think of it, what am I allowed to store on iCloud?

Is it only data that originated on my iPhone and Macs?

for example, I have an external hard drive with about 1.1TB of old digital photos and videos that were taken with my camcorder and DSLR. They are stored about 12 singles files. (each file contains one whole year of videos/photos) Can I upload that to my iCloud account for safekeeping? Right now, I don't have them backed up to the cloud anywhere. The only other two back-ups are another external hard drive that I gave to my in-laws, as well as the same files burned on a big stack of Blu-ray discs(about 50 discs, either 25gb or 50gb each) which are kept at my in-laws second home in Florida.

Thanks!

Yes, you absolutely can.
