If I am walking outside and it starts raining would my iPhone SE 2020 become liquid damaged even if under my raincoat since iPhones are easily liquid damaged and would I easily notice it if it was liquid damaged?

You will be fine as long as you don’t submerge the phone in water. iPhones aren’t more easily liquid damaged than any other water resistant phone. Some of the really old models didn’t have water resistance so perhaps that’s what you’re thinking about

Do not worry about it, iPhone SE 2020 is IP67 rated and can handle quite a bit of water:

FWIW, my iPhone 7 (two generation older than SE 2020) spent about 10 minutes in a washing machine about a year ago, came out looking much cleaner and works to this day. 😊🖐

I used to use my 6S which was not waterproof in the slightest in the rain for texting, calls etc and it survived let alone it being fine in the rain in a coat pocket. It survived 6 mile dog walks in the rain when it was so wet my clothes under my waterproof'ish coat were damp.

I'm sure you'll be fine since it's IP67 rated. This happened to my 7 Plus when I was on a motorcycle and it was suddenly raining. The 7 Plus was in my pants pocket, and my pants was soaking wet. The 7 Plus was drenched. I wiped it once I'm home, it works just fine till this day. Just make sure your SIM slot is tightly closed (with the tray completely flush to the body).

So, you’d recommend this washing machine technique?

So after going through this discussion with iPads you need to have the very same discussion on iPhones?

The definition of mobile is "capable of moving or of being moved readily from place to place."

Why would Apple sell a mobile phone if it would get damaged if it started raining outside?

In addition, Apple calls the iPhone 7 and later "splash, water, and dust resistant" - how could it be water resistant if it couldn't handle a little rain?

Don't swim with it or shower with it on purpose, but you don't need to worry about a little rain.

You can search up HT207043 if you want to see what Apple has to say about liquid damage, since you seem to be quite concerned about that.
