If next iPad Pro has Face ID, will you still get an older 10.5 for cheaper?

Whenever I upgrade to a newer iPad, I always got the newest model available. But for the first time I'm tempted to get a previous gen 10.5 model for cheap when the new iPad Pros come out (presumably with no bezels and Face ID).

Assuming a new 256GB LTE goes for $930, based on history, the previous gen might go for around $630 which is a $300 savings. Is anyone waiting for the new iPads to come out simply so you can get the 10.5 for cheap? The only road bump to my plan is if the Face ID model really does look amazing.

Lol, I am. Particularly since I want a 512GB LTE and apart from product launches, those rarely if ever get discounted (at least not without contract).

I have no interest in FaceID at this point in time and would much rather get the best hardware that still has TouchID.

Not to mention major discounts on accessories like that $160 keyboard. If they change the form factor for the next Pro so you need a new keyboard accessory, those will drop in price dramatically too.

I personally could care less for Face ID and would not be interested in paying extra for it.

I'm waiting specifically for the new iPads (12.9" in my case).

For how I use my iPad I don't really want (need) faceID. Hard to answer that now though, it depends what else they introduce on the new model and at what price. The 10.5 is great though.

I think there will only be a one bezeless iPad Pro X with Face ID. It should have a notch and a size of 11.5-12”.

Will probably start around $999 for the basic version.

The top cellular version will likely be around $1499 or more.

As rumors of Face ID started to surface for iPads in the future I opted to get my 12.9" IPP in February in order to avoid the loss of Touch ID.

I'm so happy I did. I was coming from an old Android tablet and was worried about learning new workflows on an iOS device but it didn't take long for me to find ways to do what I wanted. No regrets.

I can see others having a strong appreciation for thin bezels and Face ID . . its just not for me.

If the Face-ID tech is hidden and flush with the bezel then I'll consider picking it up, if it isn't then I'll get the 2017 iPad Pro.

The 2017 iPad Pro's are pretty much perfect in every-way. It's hard to wonder what Apple can actually improve on with the next gen Pros.

Face ID is a Marketing Tool For advertisers, wrapped in a Security envelope.
Right now we wait 5 seconds for a YouTube ad to let you Click SKIP. Developers are actively working on ways to incorporate FaceID into Marketing purposes. So instead of pressing SKIP after 5 Seconds. You would have to Really be Looking at the Ad for 5 seconds or 30 seconds before you could hit SKIP.
That being said I’ll be selling my 2016 9.7” Pro for the new 2018 IPad Pro if it features Actual Upgrades Face ID is a flat out Downgrade over Touch ID.

    I’m really wishing for 7nm A11X CPU
Improved Color Gamut Maybe HDR10 finally And Quantum Dots
And Thunderbolt 3 Support Since they can Eliminate the Finger Print sensor and squeeze in Thunderbolt 3
Bluetooth 5.0 the Spec is final if Apple fails to include it that hurts. Also LDAC Support Sony has made it Free. It’s better than aptX HD.

I’m holding out for a new one. I’ve held out for 5 years, still using an original iPad Air.

So I waited this long, might as well get the most current of the bunch.

Do refurbished iPads drop even further in price once the new models come out? For example, a 256GB LTE 10.5 Pro goes for $789 on the Apple Store. Once the new Face ID model comes out, based on historical pricing, how much more does the refurb drop, $100 more?

You can expect a 25-30% price drop compared to the original price.

Current generation refurbished iPads receive a 15% discount. Once a new model is out, the previous generation refurb model receives a 25-30% discount. The best example of this is the refurbished iPad (2017).

After the 25-30% discount, the product will receive no further discounts. As an example, the iPad Air 2 is $289. Kind of ridiculous as no one in the right mind would choose the Air 2 over the iPad (2018).

In that case I'm better off waiting for a Best Buy or other retailer to clear their old stock. A month after the new 10.5 Pros were released, Best Buy slashed the 9.7 models by 40%.

I'm good with my 10.5" for the next couple of years, especially after I sold my 2013 15" rMBP. I'll probably look to upgrade my IPP in late 2019 or early 2020 at this point (unless iOS 12/13 cripples it).

FaceID would be great for me. I’m constantly having problems with TouchID because I work with my hands and they are not in the best of condition.

It seems like Micro Center has an ongoing sale on the 10.5" pro. $150 off retail.

I just picked up an open box 10.5 pro last week for $464. It was brand new - just no shrink wrap.

i was just thinking about this today. I really do not like the face id on my phone and wish it had touch id. Its not so much of a bother that id want an 8 or 8+ though. My concern is that apple would do like they did with the x and still bring out a new 10.5 pro along side of it. Does the LTE version get marked down when the newer ones come out?

Bezeless? How are you planning to hold this device? Telekenesis?

No way, hate it and don’t use it on my X. I have just gone from 12.9 to 10.5 to 9.7, realised for my uses it’s all I need.

Speaking of bezels the 9.7 is actually better to hold, go figure.

I have the 10.5 now, but I will be upgrading to the new iPad Pro when available. I am looking forward to the new design, Face ID 2, gestures, and any screen enhancements. I'll sell ya my 10.5 though if ya want.

Got a flawless open box 10.5 for $425 at Micro Center yesterday. They’ve had all Pro’s $150 off for a while, but a savings of $225 on the model I wanted was too good to pass up.
