What happens if no presidential candidate gets 270 Electoral votes?

If no candidate receives a majority of Electoral votes, the House of Representatives elects the President from the 3 Presidential candidates who received the most Electoral votes. Each state delegation has one vote. The Senate would elect the Vice President from the 2 Vice Presidential candidates with the most Electoral votes. Each Senator would cast one vote for Vice President. If the House of Representatives fails to elect a President by Inauguration Day, the Vice-President Elect serves as acting President until the deadlock is resolved in the House.

There's still a chance to escape these abysmal choices.

Says the guy who has been telling us Trump will win in a blowout. It appears you're now at acceptance.

Well.. he's talking about the scenario of an election thrown into House, so maybe he's still at the stage called Bargaining. :p

Presidents have been puppets for the last 50+ years now. Doesn't matter who wins. Trump is the lesser of the two puppets but he seems way too evil anyway to listen to anyone.

Hillary is the stereotypical puppet just like her Obama and her hubby was. She is so scripted. Left wing media loves her and sometimes the narrative towards Trump is a bit unfair but Trump can't flip the script on his narrative anymore because how ruthless he really is. The Clintons have become millionaires from their dishonesty.

I talked to one of my neighbors is from Chicago and was wearing a Chicago Bears shirt and probably was celebrating last night when the Cubs beat the Dodgers. Pure Chicagoan. But Yorba Linda is a Republican city being Nixon's birthplace. You would think he would support Hillary. He told me hell no. He is for Trump all the way.

I prefer Trump's personality as I think he the more honest. Brutally honest for his own good but he isn't ready to be a President. So I would vote for Hillary but not because I like her. The Congress is really where the real work is done. The President are just actors to look good on TV. Puppets while their supporters are just lemmings.

Perhaps not very likely that one party does not get the majority, but if it happens, the only deal that would be accepted could be to give the presidency to the candidate with few of their own electors.

Accepted by whom? Too bad we can't just elect the Cubs or the Indians; half the country grumbles but we all just go back to watching football when the Series is over.

Accepted by over half of the electors.

And in this case, if one of the main candidates gets the seat, they would normally have over half of the country against them.

Kaine is an emasculated wuss. That's why she chose him.

Besides, you won't have the House and Senate so you don't get to decide.

On second thought, Kaine can pound sand. Congress can choose a VP.

I think there's a scenario in the EC where Utah wins and D gets VP.

If the only alternative is for R to win, D would likely give in.

I wanna see them go nuclear if it goes to the house and dump Trump and Clinton. Better for everyone.

D won't have a say in the matter.

a possible scenario....."unfaithful" electors will provide enough votes when the EC meets on Dec. 19th to send a new compromise candidate to the election in the House of Representatives.

Do you think Trump supporters would go nuclear if he lost in a tie and wasn't picked?

FYI and PSA: there are already 2 different threads talking about this outcome, and referenced by a post on 538 two weeks ago.
