If you successfully preorder the iPhone X, will you still line up during launch day for the iPhone X?
I've read cases where for whatever reason the shipping gets delayed, and people end up getting their phones at least a week after the launch day. If others have had more positive experiences with iPhone pre-orders, please share!

Wow. One week after launch day. That must be a traumatic experience.

I have never understood wasting a few days in line for a phone. You can get the phone later in a week or two or perhaps a month. You could argue experience but how is waiting in a line experience. I can go to the DMV for that experience. Waiting on line for something only produced in a set quantity I could justify.

Yes. But on the other, shorter line. Non-X line. Maybe pick up the Apple Watch Series 2. Could even sell my pre-order X to someone once it arrives. But I highly doubt it because I won't be staying up for pre-orders.

I want to see plenty of college kids that Friday pop their iPhone launch day cherry. It's a GREAT feeling. It's going to be loud and fun. I miss the social aspects of it all. Like Star Wars midnight showings.

My only launch day experience was iPhone 4 which was pre-ordered from Best Buy. It was way easier back then when it was only on AT&T. I remember watching The Karate Kid (2010) right after and feeling like Cloud 9 even if the film was mediocre. I was just happy having the 4 in my hand. Watching Ragnarok after getting the X would feel even better. *DX sign*

Like Gabriel said to Rick in last night's The Walking Dead , "It's not about you. It's about all of us." Was uttered the same thing in Fanboys (2009). "It was never about the movie. This was about all of us." Another 10 more years after this, folks. Back to the boring pre-order and drop at your home iPhones from 2018-2026.

The fun comes mostly from the adventures. The journey.. Don't stop believin'! Rock-n-roll!

If I get the preorder in and it says it'll deliver on 11/3, then no I won't line up. If for some reason the date gets delayed the day before launch (really doubt this happens), I will line up at my local AT&T store around 5pm on Thursday.
If I'm unsuccessful with the preorder, I'll need to decide whether to line up at AT&T or drive an hour and a half to the closest apple store and line up starting Wednesday night. Good thing I don't have classes on Thursdays or Fridays! Heres hoping I can convince a friend to join me though, doesn't sound fun to wait outside for 36 hours alone.

If I can get an 11/3 delivery then I won’t line up. If it’s a week or so out for delivery, then I’ll get in line.

If I get a delivery date within a couple of weeks of launch, I’m not lining up.

I lined up for several iPhones before online ordering was as streamlined as it is. It was really fun, almost like a party, full of excitement and comeradery, but honestly, my lining up days are likely over.

My experiences have been so different. I mean lining up was fun up until the moment when store assistants come out and tell us “no black models available” “no 128gb models available” “quantities are limited so only the first ten are likely to get phones”....so yes I’m done with lining up too

No way will I line up for it. I have better things to do with my time. But in all reality, if supply is as constrained as they say it is, I’m guessing most stores won’t even have any. With the 7’s launch, most stores didn’t even have a jet black on display for a few weeks because the supply was so tight. I’m guessing it could be similar for the x’s launch. Might have one on display but may not have both colors if it’s really that bad of a production issue right now.

Makes no sense to line up if you successfully preorder, stores will have limited stock.
I think with the iPhone X, its too much of a risk to stand in line not knowing how many units are available and what stores will actually have any. Not to mention, pre-ordering is just likely more efficient if somebody does it right away with an early ship date. Unless somebody wants to stand in line for the experience, then that's their prerogative.

During 8 when I bought my AW3 they only accepted pre-orders. Once they announced no 8 unless pre-order, 99% of the line dispersed. I think they’ll do only pre-orders again. All the Specialists seem to love pre-orders only.

just curious since this is my first time to preorder if ever, do you instantly get a shipping estimate once you put your order? what do you usually receive from apple soon after preordering? thanks in advance :)

When your picking your device (I think this year it appears after picking capacity) , it’ll say “Delivers 11/3” (launch day) or a range of dates if it has begun to slip. As long as you finish the process quickly, what you see beneath the capacity should be your expected delivery date/timeframe.

I think we just make preorder = if it delay or stretch too long then call apple to cancel item purchased = free cancel anytime

Liked your post just for the Walking Dead reference (I'm a big fan ;):D)

I wouldn't line up if a natural disaster and tragedy happened close to that day like say an earthquake or Paris attack in 2015. Perspective. It's just a phone. A person's life is more important than a phone and someone's hedonism. Super hot weather like today will also prevent me from lining up.

I already had my moment back in June 24, 2010. I think of it like riding Goliath at Six Flags Magic Mountain. First time was amazing sitting at the front because I didn't know what to expect. After that, was never as good again. It's like watching a horror movie that second time.
