Can you patent an app that is basically a new way of doing business (process) online (as long as it's useful, novel, and non-obvious)? I hear it's a big gray area, I've read that you can because a business process is able to be patened and I also read that you can't because you can't patent an idea and something online isn't really a specific machine (whereas a certain one of a kind calculator may be patenable)? Thanks so much in advance for any help.

I believe anyone can try but it may not pass. Do it and find out or find a lawyer who specializes in the process.
