Ok, so after a round of bricked (3) iphone 5s due to full restore and unsupported sim issues.
I've figured out that the IMEI NEEDS to be updated by your carrier before you try a full restore! Or else the server will read that the phone's IMEI doesn't match the one your carrier has when it goes to validate the firmware.

I personally haven't tried this since updating my IMEI, having been to the apple store twice yesterday for the same issue, but it makes alot of sense given how many replacements I had at launch for scuffs and never updating the IMEI.
