Dell Mini 9's running Mac is one of the best machines ever. They are built nicely and can take a beating. Plus they're quick'n snappy and fast to boot.

Old G5 Cases go for $50 - $75 on ebay.

I also have a 2.4 GHZ Macbook Pro and a 2.16 GHZ Macbook.

At my work we have 10 Mac Pros and a Xserve that I manage for my designers.

You can even wire up the front panel to work... I have not gotten around to doing it yet though. I just touch two wires together to turn it on. Lol ghettofab.

The 9 gets about 3 1/2 to four. I think the 10v gets about the same as the 9. Where as the 10 gets 3. Not sure about the newer Mini 10.

Making a hackintosh inside a G5 case is a lot cheaper than buying a Mac Pro, that's for sure. Whether or not you can get the right parts (and cheap) to built a proper Hackintosh is questionable.

Wonder what it cost to build lol.

Heh, the last thing I would do is build my own computer and run Steam on OSX. I'd at least dual boot for that for the massive performance boost in Windows. Each to their own I guess.
It's all pretty good though. I intend to use my iMac for all my OSX duties once I get a new PC, once that dies (it is from 2006 after all) I'll probably go down the hackintosh route too.

I'm done with Apple hardware (for now) as well. But I took this opportunity to learn how to use Ubuntu. Quite frankly I like it and with Windows on a 2nd partition I'm really not missing anything. My day to day tasks are accomplished with the free software I can run on Linux. OS X is still awesome, though. I miss Adium and I miss using all the shortcuts OS X has.

My Mini 9 does video pretty well. I even stream Netflix on it. It does get hot though.

The iPad is in a different category than a Dell Mini 9 and a hackintosh. Forget about tinkering. It's all locked down. It's an appliance. Not much different than a blender or toaster

That's true. It does its jobs very well, whereas I always found the mini to do them just ok.

I liked the lack of fan on the mini, but it did get damn hot.
