Should I preorder the iPhone X on Apple’s website by saying I have an existing account with Verizon?

If so, does Apple ask for any qualifying information to process the order? (i.e. phone number, account number, etc)

That sucks. So if I buy the phone outright from AT&T, my only options are to switch to T-Mobile or sell it and buy one from Verizon?

You may be able to preorder the Verizon model for in store pickup without providing account info, but I’m not sure. Other than that, either wait for the sim free model, wait for the Verizon model to be available in stores, or find a Verizon subscriber willing to let you use their account info.

Now there's a thought! Been with Verizon since my Nokia 5120 in 1998 and never been late on a payment. The last time I saw their on screen account info it said I had available Verizon credit of over $7,000.

That's at least 6 X phones available!! Anyone interested? :D

I'm a little disappointed in Verizon at work this year. Seems that it drops to 3G more often since they started offering "unlimited". But I can understand your desire to only buy phones that can be used on either CDMA or non CDMA systems. I don't want to worry about selling and buying a new phone when changing, especially if want options of prepaid.

Hopefully Intel can upgrade their modems soon so that they can be a full replacement for the Qualcomm modem.

Yeah I recently switched to AT&T to join a family plan with the gf, and she said since we’ve gotten the unlimited plan her speeds have slowed down too. That’s pretty frustrating to hear from Verizon’s end too.

Verizon needs to dump CDMA

I've never seen mine drop to 3G unless I was literally in BFE... which around here is the Cascade Range.

Outside of that I'm a solid 4G all around the Seattle/Tacoma/Bellingham western Washington area.

You could always sign up for the Apple upgrade program and then just pay off all the payments once you get the phone since the upgrade program gives you an unlocked phone. It would be a little pricier since you’d have to pay for Apple care plus but if you’re already planning on getting it then it’s likely worth it.

Pretty much right.

You will not be able to pre-order a Verizon phone from Apple or Verizon if you are on att.

There are numerous threads like this already.

Or see if you can reserve a Verizon phone at Best Buy and paythe extra $100 to buy it out right.
Or switch to Verizon

There have been reports in this forum of Apple swapping phones if you switched carriers to Verizon down the road. Worth a chat with an Apple rep.

Maybe later...although I personally doubt it, but the original question (and the answer) remains the same.

If you are with AT&T currently, you cannot pre-order a Verizon phone.

AT&T allows you to unlock your device so you could just unlock it. I'm not sure but I think then it would allow you to use it on Verizon. I just gave my friend my 6 and I had to unlock it for her to use and she's been able to use it this far with no issues.

If AT&T is GSM and Verizon is GSM as well as CDMA shouldn't it work or is that not how it works? Why was it necessary for me to unlock my phone then?

I’d be able to use data on verizon’s LTE network but calls and texts wouldn’t work, and neither would non-LTE data coverage.

ahh okay thanks for clarifying!

No problem. I was confused as to why voice over LTE was so important, but I get it now. It's one step closer to all carriers using the same technology. I guess the problem you run into is when LTE isn't available.

Also, I found out the hard way that the 6S isn't fully supported by AT&T unless it was bought through AT&T. I switched to AT&T a few months ago, and while my coverage is pretty decent, I learned that I can't access a particular band that would be useful to me in a dense urban area. So yeah... it seems that things kinda work across carriers, just not optimally unless you have the correct device model.

They should sell just one phone but Apple is hedging on Qualcomm.

Just wait until they have SIM Free ones for store pickup. It only took a month for JetBlack 7+ to show up at the store SIM Free.

Buy it from Best Buy. Best Buy sells the iPhones subject to the US Reseller Flex Policy so they all have the Qualcomm chip. Once you pay it off in full, AT&T will unlock it for you and it will work on Verizon fine.

If you pre-order through Best Buy, ship to home or ship to store, they do not come with the SIM cards pre-installed. And if you use a Verizon postpaid SIM card for the initial activation, the phone will be unlocked from the get go. the Verizon SIM card does not have to be active, you can use an inactive Verizon SIM card for the initial activation and activate over WiFi or using iTunes.

Then put your AT&T SIM card in the phone to use it on your AT&T line.

No but you can pre-order through Best Buy and you will get a phone with the Qualcomm chip even though they call it an "AT&T" phone since BB sells the iPhones subject to the USRFP. And if you use a Verizon postpaid SIM card for the initial activation, the phone will be unlocked from the get go.
