Long story short, I got the phone two weeks ago and I can't hear anything out of the earpiece.. I called and the applecare specialist had me reset my settings and it still didn't work.. The next step is to restore, so I am having them call me on my wife's phone when I get off work to troubleshoot one more time.

She said if it didn't work I can get a replacement overnight shipped to me, but I may go to my nearest Apple Store (45 min. away) to look at the phone prior to leaving (worried about scuffs and quality).

Is it stupid to go to the Apple Store? Should I chance it and let them ship me one?

when i went to the apple store today for a replacement, they were out of stock. so i called apple for an overnight replacement and they said they were going to put a $750 hold on my card, and i dont have that kind of money. so the genius at the store just fixed my problem.

Ah I see.. Well i'm definitely gonna see if they have any in stock before I make the haul. I got AppleCare +, so I wouldn't have to cover the shipping (that's what she told me anyways)...

Isn't the hold on the card just a pending process until they get the bad unit back in their possession? As long as you send the bad unit back you shouldn't be charged... If I have to have it shipped I will give them my credit card # anyways.

Side note: To activate, I just take the SIM out of the bad unit and place in the new unit yes? (stupid question, sorry!)

Just have them ship. Free, no gas and in stock. If it's chipped, call and have them keep shipping them until they get it right.

Good point. I just don't want to wait for the phone as it's not only my main personal, but also my corporate phone.
