Hi,
I have just bought an M4 Mac mini and am going to use the 5K monitor of my previous 27" 2027 iMac as a second monitor. The board I have - R1811 - is connected it up with the monitor and works fine.

Before sealing up the board in the iMac carcass, I wonder where the best place is to locate it is. Taped or stuck to the back of the monitor would seem simplest as should I need to reopen the case the only cables I need to protect are the power and HDMI cables which are long enough and pass through the RAM access hatch. But could this harm the monitor?

Or would it be better to affix it to the back casing and clear of the monitor. A problem I see with this is reopening and disconnecting leads before the monitor is removed.

Am I overthinking this or is there no best solution?

Many thanks,

David

Search through this thread for pictures of R1811 monitor conversions to get an idea of what is possible.
There are nearly as many possible solutions as there have been builders... 😀

The screen panel can get quite warm if you run the screen at higher brightness levels (when watching movies etc), so you need to allow an airflow around both the screen and the back of the board to avoid overheating.

Be careful about avoiding short-circuiting or grounding of the R1811 if you mount it close to something metallic.
A single spark usually means instant death of the board...

Many thanks. Now sorted and up and running successfully.
