everymac says this iMac takes 16GB of PC3-8500s.
I installed 4x4gb PC3-12800s and it beeped at me.
However, installing proved to be 4x4gb PC3-10600s was a success.

I was a under the impression that PC3-12800s would clock down to 1067, so I tried it with only 2 modules (8GB) and it ran... But at least once a day, it would Kernel Panic and automatically restart. Swapping the modules, didn't help either. Any ideas why?

...because you bought memory with the wrong speed. That's why.

You made an assumption that was wrong, it happens.

Wrong ram - return it and get the proper modules, and your problems will disappear :)
