iMac G5 shuts down suddenly

My 2 year-old iMac G5 shut down suddenly during use this morning, and without any apparent warning. It was as if there had been a power failure. Until now it has been entirely trouble-free. Later today, while I was logged out and the machine was in sleep mode, it shut down again. Any ideas, please, as to what may be wrong?

You may have a faulty power supply and/or logic board, but first of all check that the power cable hasn't come loose and maybe try resetting the SMU.

If you have a 20" 2.0GHz iMac G5 you might be covered under the power supply repair extension programme

If you have an older 1.6GHz or 1.8GHz iMac you might be covered under the repair extension programme for video & power issues
