Hey guys.
New around here.
I have some major issues with my custom spec iMac. Hope you can help me.

I use my iMac mostly with Adobe Premiere Pro, Media Encoder, Audition and so on. Computer mostly works fine, but sometimes decides just to shut down with the infamous white text on black background screen and sometimes just shuts off the app I am using. It mostly has issues when exporting large video files or something like that.
And sometimes it works just fine, so I really Don't know what the issue could be. But it's really frustrating since problems do occur quite regularly.

Specs of my iMac are
iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015)
10.15.2
4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
32 GB 1867 MHz DDR3
AMD Radeon R9 M390 2 GB
Crucial MX500 1TB 3D NAND SATA 2.5" 7mm

Hopefully someone can help.

Thank you loads! :)

Have you upgraded the RAM? The symptoms you describe would be a kernel panic, and noticed a lot with people on this forum who get kernel panics on their slim iMacs to be due to RAM.

Logical thinking there. But what do you exactly mean by upgrade? Because my friend and I have the same build iMacs, both with similar problems, and when we combined ram from both computeer into one it didn't do anything. That meas we combined 4 x 16 GB of RAM.
Do you think it would be different with higher MHz RAM?

I was mainly going along the thought that you might've Swapped or upgraded your RAM with some type of third-party RAM, I usually hear OWC giving kernel panics.
Is there any correlation to when it does this kernel panic and shuts down? After it goes to sleep and wakes up? Or whilst you are doing something on the iMac?

It mostly happens when exporting a big video, or starting a heavy duty task on iMac. But it must be some kind of Kernel hiccup as you say. Because i was testing it with a game as well. THe first time I ran it it shut down with a black screen with text after a few minutes, and when I ran it immediately after that it was OK for hours.

What type of ram do you think I should try to make it work?

And just to add to my assumptions when I tried to reset the RAM it was OK for one export. And then it went bananas again when trying it again.

And also, since it looks like you have a lot of knowledge, do you think it would be possible to upgrade my graphic card without upgrading the motherboard? I could use a bit more power from the machine.

Thank you.

Cheers.

First of all - I completely forgot about this, but have you checked console to see what type of kernel panic you are getting? That might give you a cause for it in there.
I am a bit worried when you say it kernel panicked after running a game -- I am wondering if it could be an issue with the GPU then?
I have heard of people using eGPUs in their iMacs, however I'm unsure if you are able to use one in a 2015, and if you can - effectively, since it only uses thunderbolt 2 compared to thunderbolt 3 in 2017/19.
