iMovie 6 image quality issues

I am making a movie from multiple still images from a digital camera using iMovie 6. When I "share" the movie, the image quality is signifcantly degraded compared to the original images. I realize the original images are of higher resolution than the final movie, but how can I maximize the image quality of my completed movie?
