A little insight into what motivates these would-be extremists, since we had many calls that waterboarding was helping recruit terrorists it seems strange that a failure of killing innocent Americans also provides a surge in recruiting.

Also it was released today that the NY square bomber was funded and trained by Taliban.

I think you'll find that any surge in publicity helps recruiting.

I guess it could work as an inspirational recruiting device,
much as Eddie the Eagle inspired countless Olympians (Mars for instance).

Why is it surprising that even a failed American attack would spur recruits?

And in a related question, we are we treating the words of a Taliban leader as any kind of reliable source? It would appear that you are less skeptical of Taliban spokesmen than Nancy Pelosi.
