What is indexing?

GET INFO for " My House" then in the drop down menu " get info"
Contents and Indexing is a triangle.

I indexed my files I guess by pressing it, what did I do?

is it bad or good?

also how do I back up my files, do you partition a part of your HD and copy your folders there, or what?
