OK, I've got an unlocked/jailbroken iPhone 2G on 2.1 firmware. My macbook is currently still running 10.5.5. I understand that there's something in 10.5.6 that cripples certain jailbreaking (and unlocking?) softwares for the iPhone. As of now, I don't really plan on updating my iPhone to 2.2, but I do want to preserve that possibility, just in case. So, my question is, would I be correct to assume that I need to stay away from updating my OS X to 10.5.6, until further notice? Or have I been totally misreading the information, and all of that only applies to the 3G iPhones?

Also, let's say I choose to keep the 2.1 firmware and forget about 2.2. Updating my macbook to 10.5.6 won't have any ill effects on my already jailbroken 2G iPhone, right?

    Thanks for your time!

The 10.5.6 does cripple the jailbreaking process by tell the USB input to not allow the DFU mode on the iPhone meaning the computer will not read the iPhone while in DFU mode which is vital to the jailbreaking process. Their is a DFU mode fix for the computer but I have tried that and it screwed by computer up so ignore that. I have read that if you have a powered USB hub you will be allowed to jailbreak by feeding the iphone 30 pin connector to the USB hub then the Hub into the computer and somehow it tricks the computer and lets you finish your jailbreak. Not sure if this works but Im sure if you research this you will find an answer.

The USB hub works. I am on 10.5.6 and I can enter DFU mode through my powered Belkin 5 port USB hub.

I went through the DFU Mode quick fix very quickly and it works fine.

So, by all means, it's safe to upgrade to 10.5.6 without worries? Just to get that confirmation.
