I’ve been a longtime Android user that recently switched to my first iOS device (XS Max). On Android whenever I updated firmware I’d do a fresh install and completely wipe system cache/data. Is it necessary on iPhone too? VIA connect to iTunes recovery mode and clean install there? Or would a simple update and keep everything the same just as good in iOS?

Been a while since I updated via iTunes.

Automatic Updates over Wifi is how it's generally done with iPhones.

If your Wifi's slow, then go the cable/iTunes route.

I have updated at least 20 times since last clean install years ago. At least eight phones back. No issues.

I do close everything out, restart phone, be on WiFi, and plug phone into power adapter. Also do an iCloud backup just before updating.

Just did latest one five minutes ago. Worked just fine.

Was that really necessary on Android?
