My family is switching health insurance right now and im just wondering.
Why are vision insurance, health insurance, and dental insurance all separate?

you would think that a company would tie them all together and make it better for the customer.

    1) Because a consumer may not want all 3 - if you don't need glasses/contacts then vision insurance is probably not worth it.

    2) Employers want the right to shop around. For example, my employer provides health and dental insurance through one insurance company and vision through another.

The insurance industry has evolved not by design. Health insurance should cover all perils. It is unnecessarily costly to administer claims by category. Until government intervenes and leads the industry to be all inclusive and share the risk across the entire population it will continue with major inefficiencies and exclusions.
