Didn't see that part about 11.4 GM vs final being mentioned there. (Don't recall there being a GM for it actually.)
Well technically it was beta 6 not GM. But it was same build as release, 15F5079a and 15F79 so sorta GM. But you are correct no GM as it were named.

The battery drain on 11.4 second public beta is pretty extreme. Down to 58% usage on my SE with under 3 hours of usage. I’d still be in the 70’s usually.

I’m at 66% with 4 hrs usage on second beta. iPhone X.

11.4 GM is the same as final. GM (as well as RTM (Release To Manufacturing)) are terms used to refer to the software build that will be in customers hands. There was definitely a GM since it was pushed out to customers.

GM = Gold Master = Final Release

Apple is kind of lazy when it comes to their build labels. Beta 6 was apparently an RC (Release Candidate), and it was determined that the RC was suitable to become the GM.

A build doesn't have to be specifically built as a GM build. GM is merely what the final, release build is called.

Apple sometimes pushes out the GM build, and actually calls it that, to the beta community before the public release. This wasn't the case with iOS 11.4, and that's what all of that was in the context of.

Are you taking about 11.4 beta public beta 2 (which no one should still be running) or 11.4.1 PB 2?

They do yeah, but it's the same. You can call the final build the GM and be correct, whether it was released to the beta community first or not. GM merely refers to the final build.

In this particular case it was in the context of and in reference to the actual named GM build that Apple sometimes releases to the beta community (specifically identified as such), before releasing the it to the public. That was the context of my comment, based on the original post that I replied to, which the poster to whom I replied seemed to have understood.
